On the Taormina riviera, with the unconfoundable mass of Etna in the background and not far from ancient Naxos, San Marco Castle Resort of Calatabiano is a small and important part of Sicily’s treasure chest.
Commissioned in 1689 by the Prince of Palagonia, Ignazio Sebastiano Gravina Cruyllas, it is immersed in a luxurious 10-acre park. After painstaking restoration, some years ago the Murabito family opened the castle’s doors to visitors, offering the possibility to enjoy the warm welcoming atmosphere of this ancient residence.
The outside is suggestive: from the ancient towers to the park’s splendid gardens, from the Chapel to the ‘Palmento’ (wine-making cellar), to the labourers’ houses adjacent to the Castle.
Inside, large salons, lava-stone arches, fireplaces and splendid chandeliers: all the refined details of rich and ostentatious nobility.
The elegant suites and romantic bedrooms, all situated in the castle’s park, contribute to making your stay unforgettable.
The castle also has a well-equipped congress hall and it is an excellent place for gatherings and business meetings. The castle has various facilities: the renowned “Giardino di Pietra” restaurant, swimming pool, fitness area, tennis courts and spa.

His Opinion: Lovely location, friendly staff, but my room was in an advanced state of disrepair. There was mold/moss in the shower, behind peeling paint, the shower blinds were covered in some kind of brown stain, and the shower and basin drains would bubble up when the toilet flushed.

His Opinion: Castello Di san Marco is a wonderfull place, with so much attention from the hotels side to your well being.
It’s relaxing, it’s full of harmony, its staff is always on their tip toe to serve you best possible.
We did get a bit firm bed… which the hotels service did try to soften a bit but not much.
That the beach area not yesterday was accessible was known to us and must be expected when being at this place so early in the season.
Bringing your own car with you gives your lots of opportunity to go see Taormina, Giardini, Giardini Naxos, Catania and as we did drive down to Syracuse/Ortiga to spend a full day their walking the wonderfull inspiring streets of this southern city on Sicily.
We will return to Sicily for sure, maybe alll ready in September maybe it will be in 2024..

His Opinion: This is our second one time to your beautiful hotel and I personally chose this location to celebrate my 70th Birthday!
The staff is excellent: from Antonio at the Reception, to Carlo at the pool, to Marco and Simon at the pool cafe! There were also some exceptional people that I can’t remember their names, but the tall Romanian restaurant manager was very helpful and friendly.
We will be back for sure!!!

Staff were friendly, professional and helpful.
Breakfast was excellent with efficIent Covid safe service.
Dinners were of a high standard. Overall a very good experience, wonderful friendly staff. Location is remote so would recommend hiring a car.

His Opinion: As a family with grown up sons and their partners Castello San Marco was perfect for us. The food, hospitality, and comfort were all excellent. The gardens are delightful, I felt the website did not do them justice and the pool is in a perfect setting.
Only one suggestion. The tennis courts were not open until 9.00 am. As the temperature was up to 35o it would have been nice to have access to them earlier and/or later.
It was nice to be near Taormina to visit, but I was pleased we were not actually staying in the town which was very busy.
I would definitely recommend the hotel to friends. Thank you again from all of us. A lovely find.

His Opinion: Un très beau jardin calme et apaisant laissant découvrir une vue magnifique sur l'Etna enneigé. Une partie encore en travaux nous fait imaginer la naissance d'un lieu magique. Une piscine extérieure, une vraie ! de très grande taille non chauffée où nous nous sommes baignés.
Un accueil chaleureux.
Le restaurant d'un style un peu rustique reste de grande classe. La cheminée avec une certaine majesté, toujours allumée ou presque, confère à l'endroit une ambiance chaleureuse. Le vin non bu, vous est gardé pour le lendemain. Sans aucun doute, la cuisine est Sicilienne simple, bien faite et délicieuse.
Le personnel est adorable.
Notre chambre ? une suite avec terrasse privative et salon. Climatisation. La propreté est là.
Seul bémol, des équipements un peu surannés mais fonctionnels. Les finitions laissent à désirer à l'encontre des standards internationaux. Mais c'est aussi cela qui confère à ce lieu tout son charme où nous avons passé un doux moment, agréable et reposant.

The staff was friendly, welcoming and professional and the entire location with the Castello, gardens, pool etc. is simply stunning.
We stayed in suite no. 101 and I found it a little bit dark in the rooms, there was little daylight.
But this is the only thing I can complain about, anything else was just perfect. :)

His Opinion: We stayed for 6 nights as a couple, and everything was very enjoyable: The Castello and surrounding parks get ten out of ten for charm and atmosphere, the pool is quite large for a hotel pool, the nearby beach is pebbles, but the private hotel beach (on operation from mid-june, just opened on our last days, which was a little sad) with umbrellas and desk chairs is quite nice. The "Italian" breakfast offers a wide variety of sweets, fruits, and all you might want except for cooked choices (which was very fine by us), and the service at reception, in the restaurant and the bar was always very friendly and efficient ( in our experience not always the common case in Italy) - overall a very well kept place, thanks to the Team for all your efforts. We intend to come back with the whole of the family next time!

His Opinion: We loved our stay at Castello San Marco. The pool was great, the gardens were lovely, the staff were delightful, the food was excellent. The lodges were comfortable. The one real complaint is that the bed was really not comfortable and the 'mattress topper' solutions were not very good as they didn't fit, so when you rolled over you fell down the hole in the middle.
We stayed out of season so there was nothing going on at the beach which was a shame as there was no way of getting anywhere else other than by car. Which meant that we ate in the hotel a lot...... which was no hardship!

His Opinion: Wir verbrachten einen wunderschönen Urlaub in Sizilien und im Castello di San Marco.
Die Lage mit Blick auf den Etna und Taormina, einfach herrlich, der riesige Garten, Park mit Palmen, Oliven, Zitronenbäumen und das sehr grosszügige Pool.....einfach herrlich.
Die Zimmer sind eher einfach gehalten (im Extra Zimmer für unsere Kinder gab es nur Zustellbetten) aber sehr sauber.
Das Essen ist auch sehr gut.
Es ist ruhig und erholsam aber auch den Kindern (5, 14) hat es sehr gut gefallen.

His Opinion: Castello San Marco is a lovely hotel with "charming" (for which I interpret interesting and good quality design, with period features - not the average, sterile environment of chains) well equipped apartments (air con, power sockets, wifi, TV [if you ever needed it!], etc.). The pool is good, with an adjoining small restaurant for lunch. Access via a back gate to the hotel's private beach area (with lots of sun lounger/shade space). Spa is good, and worth a visit. Beautiful location - there were 2 or 3 weddings hosted in the grounds. Staff are incredibly helpful. Restaurant (breakfast and dinner) was good.
Only down-sides were: CSM is quite isolated - 40 euro cab from Taormina (which is worth visiting); sun shades around pool are too small, so you cannot lie flat in the shade; there were already quite a lot of wines unavailable in the restaurant in late July.

Personnel aux petits soins et polyglotte et de bons conseils Vraiment excellent à noter.
les menus du midi à coté de la piscine sont très bien.
La literie de notre chambre n'était pas confortable, pas au niveau de ce type d'établissement.
La première partie de la propriété est louée pour des mariages ou autres. Nous profitons alors de la musique une partie de la nuit.
Bonne adresse mais un peu chère puisque nous n'avons pas bien dormi.

His Opinion: We loved our stay here. The hotel and rooms were fantastic - very spacious, clean and private from other guests. The pool was lovely for both swimming and playing and the pool service was great - clean towels and drinks whenever we wanted. There was lots of choice for breakfast. We didnt eat dinner in the restaurant but there were good places just outside on the beach. The staff were attentive and polite and we'd love to go back to ecplore more of sicily.

Piscine de rêve dans un magnifique jardin. Plage de galets mais sympa pour un petit plongeon.
Excellent service, personnel très sympathique.
Mais attention chambre qui ne bénéficie pas du confort moderne (salle de bain, rangements, clim, literie : plutôt moyens) car nous sommes dans du très ancien !

We were unaware that we would pay for tennis, which is fine to an extent except the tennis courts and raquets were in a dreadful state. We were also over-charged for our taxi from the airport to the hotel having previously agreed a fare with the hotel at the time of booking.
