Principe Di Scilla
7.9/10 on 63 reviews
Scilla, a magnificent Calabrian town with sea legends from all eras, is situated on a rock stronghold opposite the Straits of Messina. With very clear water and an extraordinary sea bottom, the splendid beach of Marina Grande and Chianalea, a legendary ancient fishing village; it is a very hospitable town with its own little port for private boats and yachts.
The Hotel “Principe di Scilla – U Bais” – a nickname given to it by a descendant of the owner in the 18th century, and meaning fair, just in baisato dialect – is set amongst the ancient splendours of an aristocratic palazzo dating back to 1533. The Hotel-Restaurant is set in the heart of the characteristic village of Chianlea, which is full of stairways and romantic corners. The restaurant-meeting salon and six suites overlook the sea and from these, it is easy to imagine that you can hear the call of the Mermaids.
The elegant and spacious suites have antique furnishings, co-ordinated to make each room special. Furthermore, the “Principe di Scilla” is better than you can ever imagine for ceremonies, weddings, meetings and conferences, or simply to enjoy a relaxing time. With the panorama of the sea in front, it offers refined menus with gastronomic specialities based on fresh local fish, which can be enjoyed whilst listening to the lapping of the seawater. The splendid marine aquarium, the enchanting sunbathing platform with access to the sea...everything designed to give customers maximum comfort, together with the proverbial hospitality appreciated by clientele from the world of show business and culture, and by those with a discerning palate.
Nearby, there is a diving centre. Clients can also take part in the Swordfish fishing tradition that has been carried out for thousands of years along this stretch of the coast and there is also Reggio Calabria which has, among many other things, a very important Museum of Magna Graecia which is only 23km away.

His Opinion: Dear management and reservation department,
A week ago we indeed stayed in your hotel. It is a wonderful place and our room was the best.
However we have some comments we would like to share with you, since they were quite obvious and we think it is good for you to know how guests experience your hotel.
First of all the breakfast was excellent the first time, but only a minor experience the next morning. It is obvious that not all employees know what to do
All restaurants had their terraces ready for the season. Only yours was not open yet and the one belonging to the Pirates restaurant was a mess with wooden boards, tables upside down, etc
Only on our last day we discovered two good restaurants nearby, we thought it is a missed point that you did not tell us more – only the Pirates was pointed out
Not that we really care about these things, but there were no covers for any teapot and the toilet action was broke. These minor things also emphasize the fact that the price/quality balance is not good. We paid a high price for the room and that did not match the quality quite well.
However we want to stress the good qualities and friendliness of your colleague from Iceland, she really did her best to make our stay comfortable. Her service was very good.
Hopefully these remarks help you to improve the quality of your wonderful hotel.
Kind regards, Karen Ekker
