Baglio San Vincenzo
8/10 on 1 reviews
The Baglio San Vincenzo, surrounded by vast vineyards and with a breathtaking panorama, is situated in the south-west of Sicily between Sciacca, an important thermal town noted since ancient times for its water sources and with its steep flights of steps towards the sea and picturesque little cubic houses which recall its Arab past, and the mythical Selinunte, the most important and extensive archaeological site from a colony of Magna Graecia (Greater Greece).
The ancient and majestic ‘masseria’ is near the town of Menfi, on a hill which dominates the valley of the San Vincenzo river. The wonderful countryside, among the Belice valley nature reserve and the Carboj valley, which goes down towards the Sea of Africa, is an alternation of vineyards, olive groves, fruit orchards, carob trees and prickly pear plants. The blue of the sky and the sea on the horizon make a triumphant backdrop of fascinating colours.
Sometimes it is possible to make out the Tunisian coastline and the sunsets which can be admired from the Baglio are spectacular. The suites have panoramic terraces, the rooms overlook the luxuriant Sicilian country and the duplex overlooks the ancient internal courtyard, as does the restaurant - with its typical Mediterranean cuisine – which has been created out of the 17th century ‘cantina’ (wine-making building) with splendid arched ceilings and which, still today, features the old ‘palmento’ wine press.
The very large cantina is newly built and has been designed taking into account the architectonic style of the Baglio. Here, the fine wines are aged in barrels and there is a magic atmosphere of secular tradition, also to be discovered along the wine routes nearby and in the famous wine-making town of Marsala.
In 15 minutes, you can be in the thermal baths of Sciacca, therefore the Baglio is also perfect for those who wish to have thermal bath treatments. And, guests can make use of a private equipped beach at Lido Boomerang, 10km distance, where canoes can be hired.
