The origins of the majestic “Castello di Montignano” date back to 962a.d. when, in Milan, Otto I of Saxony was crowned Emperor of Germany and King of Italy and the county, which also included Montignano, was assigned to Count Arnolfo, courtier and relative of the emperor, being a faithful overlord.
Meticulously renovated until the beginning of 2009, the ‘fabulous new hotel’ (Condast) is set in the community of Massa Martana and is ideal for those who want to visit Umbria – just 10 minutes from Todi, an average of 30 from Perugia, Spoleto, Terni and Orvieto and just an hour or so from Assisi – at the same time as enjoying the charm of an ancient aristocratic residence, with personalized service and refined areas for unforgettable moments: splendid ‘Sala Camino’ (Fireplace Salon), reading room with library corner, American Bar/Wine Bar with snacks and light menus in a particularly evocative context, swimming pool set among the greenery and avant-garde Wellness Centre.
The Castle hosts a very special gourmet restaurant named 'Materiaprima', which only uses local ingredients in order to offer its guests very special meals together with the most excellent Italian wines.
The new Relais & Spa is also an exclusive and luxurious place for very important small meetings or ceremonies. Its special position in the heart of Umbria, with panoramic view over the surrounding countryside and valleys, make it the ideal setting for unique events in a setting of rare fascination and prestige.
The bedrooms and suites take their names from the families who have owned the Castle since 1200 and recall medieval times with original furniture, renovated pieces and materials inspired by nature, all set in a designer context – a style guided by historic events with a creative eye. The fabulous suites are sumptuous residences of over 50 square metres, dominating views, ceilings framed with trusses, vaults or fireplaces and SPA facilities en suite – as also in the luxury apartments with fireplace and equipped kitchenette for your maximum privacy.
All suites and apartments have direct access, via lift, to the “Acqua Degna” SPA, by Paolo Caschera Beauty & Wellness, in the dungeons – and with relaxation area in the enchanting cloister next to it -, that unites the magic history of the Castle to the most modern technology and design. Inspired by the ancient thermal baths, there is a classic Roman treatment with tepidarium-caldarium etc., a large range of excellent ayurvedic treatments, and baths blended with pleasant massages with oils, milk, aromatic essences…personalized to satisfy every need.

Une cuisine excellente avec de belles offres de vins locaux et de forts bons conseils du personnel !
Tout le personnel est d'ailleurs fort charmant et agréable ! Quant à la chambre : juste parfait !

His Opinion: tutto bello e buono. Un solo neo: la segnaletica stradale...usciti da massa martana non c'e' un segno del castello se non arrivati al borgo s. faustino, ormai quasi arrivati...sarebbe molto meglio qualche segnale anche all'uscita della E45, per rendere piu' facile la meta.
