Dimora Cottanera
10/10 on 1 reviews
The villa, purchased by the Cambria family in the 1960s together with the agricultural property, the rooms have been restored without distorting the rigor of the past, trying to update them in a dynamic and modern present. Some pieces of furniture are the same ones that decorated the walls of past years, restored and reinserted in a warm and colorful environment.
In the warehouses where the hazelnuts were stored, today we find some of the rooms of the Dimora which preserve the original architecture, with walls in earthenware, the typical covering of rural buildings on Etna. Each room is unique in terms of color or shape.
The charm of the ancient Etna millstones is in itself the precious testimony of the millenary culture of wine on the slopes of Etna. The old millstone of the Dimora is the historical memory of
a family and his passion for wine. Surrounded by lava stone walls, with original press and wine press and furnished with old chestnut barrels, today it contains a niche where you can discover the old Cottanera vintages.
The history of these places is based today on modern forms and materials, such as the floors or walls of the bathrooms in Salvadori marble, master craftsmen who transform natural stone into refined timeless 'pieces' with an elegant and minimalist design. After a long restoration, 13 rooms distributed in different environments, different in shape and color, are linked by a single desire: to dress the places in the countryside with sober elegance, without disturbing their essence.
On the garden level of the villa, also covered in earthenware, the area reserved for wellness winds its way: 2 cabins for massages and a relaxation area with sunbeds and a sauna which, on one side, overlooks the beautiful millstone (the cellar) antique and chestnut barrels, and on the other it leads to a green patio with jacuzzi. Beyond the garden, the path continues towards the infinity pool overlooking the vineyard: a place to suspend everything and let yourself be carried away by the slow pace of the countryside.
The upper part of the millstone, the track where grapes were once pressed, is today a suggestive environment dedicated to fitness, for those who, even on rainy days, do not want to give up on taking care of their physical shape.
The Cottanera vineyards (110 hectares, of which about 70 are vineyards) are located on lava soil at an altitude of 680 to over 800 meters above sea level, along the northern slopes of the Etna volcano. Each intervention is done by hand to extract the maximum from the territory, without distorting it in any way. The new generation carries on the challenge of creating a garrison of modern viticulture on Etna that aims above all at the pursuit of quality, respecting jealously guarded traditions.
