Hotel Locanda Dei Mai Intees
7.9/10 on 140 reviews
Dominating the green area of Milan and Varese Lake from above, the “Locanda dei Mai Intees” is set in the town of Azzate, just a few minutes from the centre of Varese and 45kms from Milan. Already as far back as the 18th century, this beautiful area was the favourite destination of the aristocracy and middle classes from Lombardy, who loved to spend their holidays on the Sacro Monte hills. In particular, Stendhal defined Varese as the Versailles di Milano (the Versailles of Milan)...
The Locanda, originally a small 15th century village with little main square, post office, pharmacy and barn, was united into a single country residence by the chemist Luigi Borsa, whose 5th generation descendants have converted it into an enchanting hotel with every comfort, with a gastronomic restaurant – and a splendid view of the imposing Monte Rosa and the Prealpi zone of Lombardy.
In the Stanze Padronali bedrooms – two have fireplaces – the original furnishings have been maintained, while the Romantiche bedrooms - deluxe rooms where you can even have massages, ayurvedic treatments or shiatsu treatments in total pricacy, with soft background music and incense fragrances.. – are the most recently created and boast wooden beams, delightful antique wicker furniture, comfortable sofas covered in quality French fabrics and the great-grandfather’s drapes with lacework…And the beautiful suite with an antique wooden balcony overlooking the garden is appropriately called Giulietta (Juliet)...
Also preserving their ancient fascination is the tower, the courtyard with well and the various convivial areas: the bar created out of the ancient post office, the evocative breakfast room in the stables, the piano room with portraits of the grandparents, and the magnificent dining room or ex-pharmacy, which stands out for its original 15th century frescoes and enormous fireplace. Here – or in the romantic Privé, strictly for two – you can enjoy the delights of the Restaurant, renowned since its opening in 1989 and also popular with clientele from Milan.
The Sala delle Armi (Arms Salon) with frescoes and the panoramic Meeting Room make the atmosphere of every event unique. But the fulcrum of the Locanda is beyond doubt the lounge on the verandah, with wood-burning stove, backgammon board and, above all, the large picture windows which overlook the courtyard on one side and on another, the luxuriant garden – a sea of palm trees, ivy, fragrant mandarins and lemons, gardenia and camellia shrubs and other white flowers – favoured by the owner …

Consigliato , specie a chi, come a noi, ama i posti "vintage".
